Enjoy your holiday in the Westport, Co. Mayo

 

 

Day 1 - Relax and settle into your bed and breakfast.

 

Afternoon: Check-in at The Garden Gates

Evening: Enjoy a warm drink and chat with the host, then a nice leisurely meal overlooking clew bay at the Sheebeen, Rosbeg, Westport.

 

 

Day 2 - See the sights and sounds of Westport.

 

Morning: Breakfast followed by a stroll around Westport and some light shopping.

Afternoon: Savor lunch at Currys Country Kitchen on James street; then a trip to Westport Quay, pop into the the Clew Bay Heritage Centre and take a walk around the grounds of Westport house.

Evening/Night: Have some local fresh fish for dinner at the Quay Cottage.

 

Day 3 - Climb Croagh Patrick

 

Morning: Savor a leisurely breakfast

Afternoon: Climb Croagh Patrick, its 762m above sea level. It takes on average 2 hours to climb to the top and about one and half hours down. 3 miles round trip. It is not for the unfit or faint hearted, but defnitely worth it with breathtaking views of clew bay. Pack a picnic from your B & B for lunch.

Evening/Night: Grab a take-away (take-out) on your way home put your feet up and relax for the night in your B&B's tv room. If you are up for it after the big climb defenitely treat yourself to a pint in Mc Gings Westport.

 

 

Day 4 - A wonderful scenic drive & Cong

 

Morning: Early Breakfast

Afternoon: Drive from Westport to Louisburgh on to Leenaune stop off at Ashleagh Water Falls, then onto Kylemore Abby and into Cliften. On the way back you travel through Cong. Visit Ashford Castle and go for a stroll around the back of the abby in Cong Village. Cong is a beautiful quaint village .Don't forget Ballintubber Abby on the way back. See Drives.

Evening/Night: Dinner and wine in the Aubergine in Ballinrobe.

 

 

 

Day 5 - Irish Country Life Museum, Foxford Wollen Mills & Ballina.

 

Morning: Leisurely Breakfast .

Afternoon: This is a great option for a wet day as we get a few; the museum of Country Life in Turlough (closed Mondays). Then Lunch or early dinner in The Bay Leaf restaurant at Horkans Garden centre next door to the Museum. Go for a walk to the round tower. If you want to lengthen your day take a short drive onto the Foxford Woolen Mills and Knock Shrine or Ballina.

Evening/Night: A pint of Guinness in Mannions of Balla.

 

 

 

Day 6 - A scenic drive to Achill

 

Morning: Early Breakfast

Afternoon: Drive to Newport where the local butcher (Kellys) makes the award winning black and white pudding, stop off at mulranny hotel & spa for a Coffee, then a walk on the beach. Continue on to Achill island follow the Atlantic drive to the end. Continue on to the Ceide Fields and return via Pontoon .

Evening/Night: Pub Dinner in Bar One, Castlebar

 

 

 

Day 7 - Try some mayo walks: ie. The Croagh Patrick Heritage trail

 

Morning: Breakfast.

Afternoon: Bring a packed lunch and try some of the local walks. See our walks page and choose a trail that suits you. See Mayo Walks

Evening/Night: A swim, sauna & steam room in the Woods hotel and a meal in The Helm, The Quay Westport.
